Increasing the Odds: Improving Key Math and English Skills for Success After Incarceration

In this session, we will highlight how leaders in states like Oregon, Montana and New Mexico are utilizing EdReady in Adult Education classrooms and corrections facilities to improve college, career and civic readiness. There is an urgent need for correctional facilities to provide effective educational opportunities and to improve college and career readiness. Approximately 70% of all jobs in 2027 will require postsecondary education and training beyond high school; however, 30% of incarcerated adults will not have earned a high school credential before or during incarceration. Justice-impacted populations often face significant barriers to accessing quality education and training to improve career-relevant skills after release, yet we know that the best chance for successfully reintegrating into society is heavily dependent on obtaining a living-wage job. EdReady is an adaptive learning tool powered by the non-profit organization, The NROC Project. EdReady is a low-cost resource that prepares students for GED, Accuplacer, college-level coursework and more. The platform is dedicated to improving the critical math and reading/writing skills for all levels of students, curating a personalized study path to help students in correctional settings confidently set a foundation for their educational goals, whether those are high-school equivalency, readiness for college, or key skills for technical careers. Instructors love the data and insight in student learning and activity, and during this presentation, we will showcase the student experience, administrator/instructor experience, as well as highlight best practices from a few of our 1700 partners across the country.
